Property Description

“Perfection” is not easy to achieve. But, if the “perfect view” of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park is what you seek, you would be hard pressed to top the view you will find when comfortably ensconced on the west deck at Windcliff Estate’s Stevenson residence. The deck extends the entire width of the western façade of this mountain home. Great wooden rocking chairs sway gently in the mountain breeze to entice you to tarry --- and to try them on for “sighs!” Your thirst has to be great to drink in all the majesty spread before you. The Front Range and the Mummy Range of the Rocky Mountains are heaped high upon themselves in their reach for the sky. Deep canyons cleave their façades. The line connecting their summits is the Western Continental Divide of the United States. Forests ascend the mountainscapes as far as climate and nature allow, but succumb in time to tundra. Rocky Mountain National Park is one of America’s premier National Parks. It marked the dawn of its second century by celebrating the 100th anniversary of its “Grand Opening” on September 4, 2015. “Rocky” encompasses 415 square miles of natural Alpine beauty. Within its boundaries are 359 miles of trails, 150 lakes, and 450 miles of streams and rivers. Count the mountain peaks that tower above 12,000 feet and there are 72. Long’s Peak, towering unto Heaven just south of Windcliff Estates, reaches to 14,259 feet. And, the Stevenson residence is a perfect base of operation from which to experience them all!

Stevenson is one amongst the remarkable collection of mountain homes that adorn prestigious Windcliff Estates. Its living room is wondrously bright as its picture windows invite the mountains inside in all their glory. Sit awhile. Chat. Plan your excursions into the National Park. Set a fire in the grate. Read, enjoy some Blu-Ray, or play a game. The kitchen, with its multi-million dollar view, is primed with every essential implement necessary to prepare a snack or a sumptuous feast. The dining area is “European Café” in style and waiting to be set with the fine Gibson china and the tall red wine goblets arrayed in the side cupboards. Alternative dining is available and highly desirable out on the spacious deck. The gas grill poised there makes a small whistling sound in the breeze that sounds tantalizingly like “Bar-B-Q, Bar-B-Q, Bar-B-Q…….” A king master suite with a private sitting area drenched in mountain vistas and deck access rounds out the top floor of Stevenson.

Downstairs there is an elegant queen bedroom suite, a cheerful triple twin bedroom, and a view-laden family room featuring a large-screen TV, games, and daybed seating with trundles. It is here, too, that you find access to the sprawling outdoor hot tub patio. With a cold glass, family and friends, and the mountain views all readily at hand, this is surely “Heaven on Earth.” In every season the hot tub is a welcome respite after a day of hiking or horse-back riding in the National Park. In the days of winter, it is a perfect sanctuary on the cusp of a cold night as the stars shine overhead with an intensity unknown elsewhere --- or a gentle snowfall tickles both your nose and your fancy.

Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Stevenson” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing “Stevenson” is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!

Beautiful Views!! Peaceful!!

We usually come to Estes Park almost every year but this is the first year that we booked a house. The rental process with Windcliff Properties was great. They did a great job of communicating by email with information, policies, and bill receipts. The house was very cozy and has beautiful views. We had a small issue with the bed situation. We booked this property as it had an upstairs bedroom and bath because our 85 yr old mother was also coming. We did not notice in the pictures that the king bed was a raised or platform bed that had 3 steps to get up into it. We tried it a couple of nights but with her getting up in the middle of the night and had difficulty with the steps we made the decision to move her downstairs -- but then she also had to go up and down the basement stairs. The mattress in the master bedroom was good but the twin bed and queen bed mattresses need updating. One of the bedrooms was setup for kids with stuffed animals on the beds, kid furniture, and TV with DVD player--- a kids dream. Nice TVs in the living room, den, and master bedroom. The kitchen was better stocked with cookware, etc than any condo we have stayed at in the past. The deck was wonderful and we saw deer and elk in the morning for the first 3 days. The driveway was a bit of a challenge due to the angle especially if you would have a larger vehicle but you can also go past the driveway a bit and turn around on a small road and approach it from another angle. The bathrooms had loose rugs on the floors and we went out and bought a couple cheap rugs that would not slide as a safety issue for our mother. The bathrooms were clean but could use some updating. We loved the quietness. They were a variety of books, movies, and games that I think families would really enjoy. Overall, we loved our time at this property. The price was very good in having a whole home to ourselves versus a condo.

My wife and I hosted our children foa the week in the Rocky Mountains. Five adults total. The property had plenty of room. It was out of town and away from the crowds of Estes Park. The view is spectacular. We were able to watch the thunderstorms roll in early evenings. Very quite and you could not see your neighbors. Hiking trails are nearby as is the Rocky Mountain National Park. Great place to hike. Even got in a terrific rafting trip. Enjoyed the week very much. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Breathtaking views and perfect location

This was our first trip to Estes Park and I don't think we could have picked a more perfect spot. Stevenson has an amazing view and it was incredible to watch the sunsets in the afternoon and watch the rays of sun hit the mountains in the mornings. The location is fantastic, only five minutes or so from Rocky Mountain National Park or the shops and eating establishments of Estes Park. The cabin itself is well appointed with plenty of room for an extra-large family. It was super nice having a washer and dryer on site. The kitchen was very well furnished with a lot of cooking needs including spices and oils. We weren't able to take advantage of the gas grill due to high winds but it was a nice feature to have as well. The biggest drawbacks to the property for us were the living room furnishings, internet speed and lack of HDTV. The living room furniture is dated (80's likely) and pretty uncomfortable to sit on for extended periods of time. There are two HDTVs in the unit but the cable is only standard definition. We also had difficulty with the internet during our stay being quite slow. Those are very minor things that could be improved about what is overall a fantastic place to stay if you are in the area.

Thank you for your review. Windcliff is known for its phenomenal views of the Continental Divide of the Rockies and Stevenson is no exception. We regret that you had problems with Internet speed. Although there have been many upgrades to Internet capability in the last few years, mountain areas do not have the same Internet speed as urban areas. The Internet speed at Stevenson is the best that is available in our area. Regarding the cable service, we will notify the owners and request that they upgrade the cable service to include High Definition. Thanks again for staying at Windcliff.
