Property Description

“Doiron” is a warm and welcoming duplex vacation home situated at the heart of prestigious Windcliff Estates. It perches upon a spacious and secluded lot bordered by green space and sheltered by towering trees. The vestibule’s walls are adorned with artistic renditions inscribed on barn wood. Entering the Doiron residence immediately reveals its reason for existing. A wall of western windows displays one of the most dramatic mountain vistas imaginable.

Jagged mountain peaks rise up before you to kiss the sky. These are the mountains of the Front Range and the Mummy Range of the Rocky Mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park. They are crowned with year-‘round snow and America’s western Continental Divide. Venture out onto the western deck where the freshness of the mountain air defies description. Tables and chairs abound. But, the most-intriguing piece of furniture here is the double side-by-side platform rocker swaying even now in the gentle breeze.

The great room at Doiron presents itself as an ideal haven for all of the “at home” moments of your vacation and the perfect base camp from which to launch an infinite variety of outdoor adventures in the National Park and its surroundings. (A stash of tall walking sticks stands in the corner --- ready when you are.) A moss rock, wood-burning fireplace invites hours of relaxation and contemplation in the leather furnishings arrayed before it. Rare samples of merchantile-store furnishings adorn the room. A primitive art rendition of early natives confronting a herd of elk is handsomely etched on the surface of the coffee table.

A friendly on-lookers’ bar delineates the creative space harbored in the kitchen at Doiron. A glass-top range awaits the first “short order” of the day --- or the opportunity to share in the preparation of the heartiest holiday meal you can envision. This tray-ceilinged kitchen is wondrously bright and affords a view south towards the Wind River Pass. Brew a cup of Keurig “100% Arabica Donut Shop Blend” from the selection at hand and head for the western deck. It is the appointed hour for the rising sun to dapple the mountain peaks. Doiron’s dining table is situated near the western windows so that the unobstructed view of the National Park is a guest at every meal. A sculpture of an adventurous bear steering a large, provision-laden canoe and his compliment of cubs down the middle of the table provides smiles at every meal! A magnificent antler chandelier with renderings of Colorado elk etched in glass hangs overhead. (And, incidentally, isn’t that a live bull elk and his harem grazing past Doiron even as we speak?)

Doiron affords you three bedrooms --- a master suite on the main level and two more on the level below. Doiron’s master suite is situated such that you can enjoy unobstructed views of the Rocky Mountains. The entire residence is a veritable gallery of fine art prints. Rick Kelley’s masterpiece portrayal of a wolf entitled “The Shadow Hunter” dominates the staircase as you descend to the lower level. The wolf’s stately stance and steely gaze enhance your perception of your wilderness surroundings every time you pass. It is downstairs that you will find two more bedrooms, a home theater, and a magnificent Jacuzzi soaking tub set against the western-view windows. Outside is a ground-level patio where a gas grill awaits your creative culinary pleasure.

“Pleasure” is, indeed, what visitors have found at Doiron as their inscriptions in the Guest Book attest:
• “…..listening to the bull elks’ call and falling asleep looking up at the stars out the master bedroom window --- what wonderful memories!”
• “Waking up with the view of the mountains is breathtaking.”
• “We’ve come all the way from Madrid, Spain, to enjoy these beautiful mountains, the spectacular views, and all the wonderful animals --- especially the deer that come into the yard to feed.”
• “…….loved the turkeys and the hummingbirds!”
• “Our favorite moments were most definitely spent watching the sunsets from the swing on the deck.”
• “We laughed, cried, prayed, ate, drank, read, hot-tubbed (new verb!), played cards, --- and even went horseback riding during a snowfall.”
• “Thanks to your beautiful home, this was the most incredible and unforgettable vacation we have ever taken.”
• “The meteor shower, the mountain lion, the hummingbirds --- magnificent!”
• “Our kids loved ‘unplugging’ and getting back to family basics.”
• “The beauty of this area, the view, and the people who call it ‘home’ have taken us in, seduced us, and left us forever in need of yet another ‘Doiron fix.’”

Although Estes Park [Rocky Mountain National Park’s gateway community] is only 15 minutes distant by car, you will always feel securely tucked away at “Doiron” --- separated from the “hustle and bustle” of people and their traffic. The Windcliff enclave embracing the “Doiron” residence is a private residential community comprising 260 acres on the sunny western slopes of Ram’s Horn Mountain. It is served by a single entrance to private roads with no through streets or heavy traffic. It is truly a world apart!

Needs serious updating, but great view

A TripAdvisor Member stayed 5 nights on 5/24/2014

This duplex needs some serious updating. There are popcorn ceilings, outdated bathrooms, cabinetry, etc. Even the toilet seats were worn out. The blanket on our bed had holes in it. It has a great view and we saw a lot of wildlife. There wasn't air conditioning and it got really hot inside. I can't imagine going in the summer with no way to cool off the inside of the house. Also, it's a 2 1/2 bath duplex, not a 3 bathroom. You will be charged for every person staying there so the price is a little deceiving.

Manager Response

Thank you for your review. Our vacation homes are not air conditioned nor are they advertised as being air-conditioned. Our morning and evening temperatures even in the summer are typically in the mid-50s or colder. Opening a few windows to let the cool mountain air inside is the standard here. Regarding our rates, they are clearly explained on our website as being occupancy-based and every guest receives both a verbal and a written quote during the reservation process, making it hard to believe that anyone would say they had been deceived. We hope that you find more suitable accommodations elsewhere in the future.

Relaxing, comfortable, and convenient.

Bob and Lisa stayed 2 nights on 4/11/2014

We were very pleased with our rental home. It was warm, comfortable, and convenient to town. My favorite part of my stay was when we woke up on Sunday morning to fresh snow and an entire herd of elk hanging out in the back yard!

Doiron provided a comfortable and peaceful vacation.

The Stellys stayed 6 nights on 8/11/2013

Like other Windcliff properties, Doiron was perfectly maintained and comfortable. The staff is excellent in its service. Doiron was a nice home, very peaceful surroundings inside and out. The house was supplied just like home, with all that was needed in the kitchen and baths. The porches provided a perfect place for quietly observing the variety of wildlife that happened to walk by, including a black bear!

Beautiful house...but not for the faint of heights!

J.Beckley stayed 7 nights on 6/30/2013

Planned a week stay at the Dorion. Arrived to find out that the house was perched high on a mountain (thus the beautiful views). The roads are wide enough and safe; but also have at least 4 switchbacks with cliff drop offs. The "streets" were not clearly marked and the map/directions were unclear as well. We missed our street the first time up causing us to drive to the very top of the development. We then had to do a 6-8 point turn to go back down. The roads are wide enough to drive on but not so wide to do a decent turn. We have a Crew Cab Toyota Tundra. Getting into the driveway of the house required a 3 point turn looking downhill to get into the driveway. Once we figured out how to get to the unit... it was better but still precarious, in my opinion. The duplex was very nice and the views...Wow! The Master Bedroom is situated at the top level and the 2 other bedrooms were on the bottom which had access to a main level deck/door. We personally did not like the fact that the 2 bedrooms are girls were going to be in were downstairs because of the ability to access them through the porch door. Overall, the Dorion is a beautiful place to stay for those who have no height issues. We stayed only 2 of the 7 days reserved because of my height issues. I just couldn't get comfortable with the drive up and down. The house was within 1/4 mile of the Ymca. It was very close to the city of Estes Park and the National Park. There was little concern for our early departure by the management and no refunds were given, even though they failed to stress the steepness of the roads and the altitude of the house. They cited the contract which we signed and that was it. I was disappointed by the fact that there was no mention in any of the write ups about the development's location and possible issues for people with height issues. I was also disappointed that there was no accommodation made for us, regardless of a contract signed on a property that was sight unseen.

kurt stayed 4 nights on 8/4/2012

The Doiron property was very nice. The views are stunning. The bedrooms are roomy and comfortable. As someone who travels 40+ weeks/year, I found the mattresses in exceptional condition. The kitchen styling was a little dated, but was very well equipped (and that's what really counts). I especially appreciated the Keurig coffee maker. The deck off of the LR is rather small. However, there was a hummingbird feeder which I filled and the hummers were dive bombing it for the entire stay! It was wonderful. The only drawback with Doiron is the condition of the LR furniture. While it looked ok, sitting on it was not a pleasant experience. The cushions are in pretty bad shape. I would not let that detract me from recommending the Doiron. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay - and the view makes up for any minor inconveniences. The Wyncliff staff were very helpful and the unit was very clean and comfortable.
